I think the first thing that people really need to know is that dog food, is filled with just about everything a dog needs to live a long and healthy life! Most are completely balanced. Dry pet food is better for them than just about any of the food we eat (it would be better for us too!) đ A good dog food will usually have meat as the first thing on the ingredient list! This is slightly misleading because the meat is weighed with the water in it, and by the time it actually makes it to the pet food it is in reality a lot lower on the list of main ingredients. The other thing that pet food makers use is a form of meat called meal, one of the things you might want to look out for is that it specifically states beef or chicken meal because in cutting corners pet food suppliers will use âmeat mealâ that has been cooked down and still contains trace amounts of Sodium Pentobarbital in it. (If you are unclear on what all that means, just the implications are bad enough) glutens are the good part of the vegetable it’s made up of significant amounts of crude protein, digestible fiber, and minerals. Everything else in the food that is on the top of that list is filler! (although a quality food will generally have at least the necessary oils and yeast for nutrients)  While on the subject of food I have to point out that wet foods, or the inexpensive foods that your dog just loves and canât get enough of!! They are actually filled with sugar and fat, they are just about the equivalent of Fast Food for people. (You could live on it, but would you really want to?) Not to mention that the wet food or a mixture of wet and dry food is harder on their teeth because being unable to brush, the food just sits there starting the decay process. Dry food actually brushes their teeth as they chew, giving them not only fresher breath! But whiter cleaner teeth. (we can hope anyway) đ The other downside of the less expensive dry food is that the dog requires more of it (since there is less meat and more filler they absorbs less of it) having the fillers pass through their systems they actually defecate more. (I thought you would want to know that) đ One of the other things that is very important for puppies (especially the large breed) is that you give them the correct amount of protein! what they actually need to grow, you can have your large breed puppy shoot up in height by giving him very high protein food, but their bones unable to grow at the advanced rate will become weak and unfortunately give them hip and bone problems later in life. So I cant begin to explain how important it is to start your puppy off on the right foot!
